six photos of → stiles stilinski smiling.
scott always checks in on the nights the sheriff is on duty. stiles still carries the inhaler even though scott no longer needs it.
just in case.
The night that Scott’s dad left he was sleeping over at Stiles’ house. They’d built a blanket fort underneath the dinning room table and had convinced the Sheriff to let them sleep there. He hadn’t put up much of a fight, too exhausted, and mind still back at the hospital, with his dying wife. Sometimes Scott wonders if Stiles’ dad ever really left that hospital. And then sometimes Scott wonders if he and Stiles ever really left that moment in time, in the fort underneath the table.
There are days when he’s at school and everything seems completely empty, as empty as his house felt when he got home the next morning and his dad was just gone. He’s not sure if it’s because he never left that night or if it’s because that night never left him. They come to him suddenly, the memories of before, and often when it’s something small, like dropping his inhaler. Sometimes even being in the woods brings him back to that night, when they were pretending to be fearless explorers in the forest. And now, being a werewolf, he thinks that maybe he was never meant to leave the woods that night, even if those woods were only pretend.
But just when he thinks the memories are going to overwhelm him, Stiles will appear. Stiles, who’s just as much stuck in that night as he is, the night before everything went to hell. Because Stiles’ dad didn’t walk out on him that night, but his mom died only a handful of days later. So it might be hard, he might be stuck in the past, but it’s okay, because his best friend is right there with him.
